175 GB of unaccounted storage space

My hard drive has a capacity of 465 GB. I've run WinDirStat and it says that there are only 228 GB worth of files on my hard drive. Windows, however, states that I only have 62 GB free. This leaves about 175 GB unaccounted for.

I tried defragmenting my disk, but it didn't help. I also ran disk clean up and deleted all the restore points/shadow storage, but that also didn't make a difference. I ran the command line "vssadmin list shadowstorage" to double check, and it says that shadow storage is only taking up about 3 GB.

Here are some pics of storage management in "my computer", WinDirStat results, and a window showing disk usage for restore points.

I'm at a lost as to where the space is being taken up. Any help will be appreciated.

EDIT: WinDirStat is showing 172 GB of unknown space. What can this be? I'm running a full disk check now, as another thread with a similar problem found this to be the solution.

EDIT 2: The disk check did nothing...

    Do you use Avast anti-virus?

    Do you use System Restore?

Try using another app such as TreeSize Free edition to see what it says about what is occupying space.

I just tried scanning with TreeSize and it seems to have found the problem! Turns out it's from Lenovo's Rescue and Recovery program. Weird thing is that the backups don't show in the Rescue and Recovery application or on any other hard drive scanner.. they are stored on a hidden file that is hard to access. Anyways, I'll find a way to delete it. Thanks for the help!

Just curious to know the Lenovo model number of the PC. Also whether you installed the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery application or whether it came preinstalled as well as the version number of that program.

It is a Lenovo m82 tower. The program came pre-installed. I deleted the program, so not sure what version it was, but it was probably the latest iteration.

Thanks for the info. That should help us in dealing with this problem with Lenovo machines.
