Toshiba Equium A200 USB Ports have stopped working

Hallo, I am DESPERATE for help, please.

I have a Toshiba Laptop Equium A200 series, with Windows 32-bit.

My USB ports are giving me major problems.

I use a USB Internet Modem on several computers, and it works fine on all computers, including Toshiba.

A month ago, the USB Internet would suddenly and continuously disconnect itself from the Internet, when I use it in USB port one. When I use it in USB port two, it doesn't register anymore. The port simply doesn't register the device.

Both USB ports work fine when used by other USB products.

I had always used USB Internet in USB port one, with a cooling fan for my laptop, in USB port two. Now, when I insert the cooling fan, USB Internet disconnects itself, and won't register, unless i remove the fan, and remove, and re-insert the USB Internet.

    I have done the following:

    1. Run an anti-virus
    2. Uninstall, re-install, and update all drivers for USB ports, chipset famlies, Internet Modem, EVERYTHING.
    3. I've checked with my Internet provider, the problem lies with my PC, not them.

I don't know what to do, I am fed up.

    PLEASE help!!!

Riff have had a bit to do with Toshibas and have an A200 myself now where did you get the drivers from??
What we need to know is the PART NO see pic

Now being quite an older machine it might be down to wear so lets hope it is drivers though I can get some disassembly guides for you.

Riff have just posted something but I don't think it went through had a bit to do with Toshibas and have one of these older A200's myself.

What we need to know is where did you get the drivers from the Windows feature you may as well forget and so I would like to know what the PART NO of your machine is - a sticker on the back see my pic

Now given it's age it might not be drivers but wear and tear but let's have that number asap. Don't worry I am sure we can sort something out but I need that PART NO

If it is wear and tear then don't despair it can be fixable in all prbability.

Ok mate that is the number I wanted the pic is ok

Now for the time being don't use those add on programs like Device Doctor I think you will find that most of us will tell you they are usually crap and create more problems than good.

I am going to check the site and see if we do have the right drivers not that I doubt you for my own curiosity and so you can check what you have got are the same .

Ok that machine was made for the UK so did you take it to South Africa with you? Plus I am having a dickens of a job finding any links for the drivers so have you got one you can send me please. The closest I can find are drivers for the A300 series.

Yes, the laptop is now in SA.

The best link that I've got for the drivers is this https://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/do...ivers_bios.jsp

I found another site, for the exact product, but no drivers

    Equium A200-1V0 - Toshiba

According to the site, it is a discontinued product, hence no drivers for that specific model.

Thanks Brian that is the one that would not come up for me I only got A300 listed - very weird, and yes Riff yours are giving us the same results. The link that Maxie has sent is the right one to use

I am now thinking at least the chipset should be updated although the update is very old it might just jerk it into life again.
The USB I am guessing will be controlled through that.

Now being an older machine I think also you might be looking at wear and tear I am afraid and in that case it would need a very careful inspection of the port from the outside with a very bright light to see what the contacts look like and then even taking the motherboard out to look for "dry" joints where they are soldered into it.

What you will see inside the ports are four contacts two power and two for data if they look really worn or damaged then it isn't good news
