HP Pavilion DV7 - Finger Print Scanner Bypass?

The thread title basically says it all. Inherited a laptop from an acquaintance (no longer in contact with) and the system boots up to the Win7 (home premium) logon screen asking for finger print identification. Needless to say it won't accept my print. There is only the primary user or the finger print utility to select. Things I've tried thus far:

- Disable finger print identification in system BIOS - No options even present
- Various Windows Password Reset Utilities - Ophcrack reports "no password present" for the target user, which I assume means the fingerprint is acting as the password somehow
- Using Windows Recovery Console, I tried activating the Administrator account - this didn't seem to work
using the CMD prompt, but I want to try it again. I may not have had the proper directory selected
- Safe mode brings up the same logon screen
- Brought up the HP finger print utility (from the logon screen) and tried to register my print, but it requires the appropriate Windows password which the various reset utilities are reporting as non-existent

Now, obviously I could wipe and reinstall Win7 HP but I wanted to see if there was a way around this. I've been researching some on my own but haven't read of any sure-fire methods. What I did read is how only having biometric security with no recourse or back-up is a bad idea. And now I know why, LOL. Any other suggestions are welcomed. Hi i not 100% sure we can help you as it's against forum rules to help with passwords as we can not verify that you are actually the owner of the laptop in question. my suggestion would be to contact the person you got it from to give you the password or have him log in and then change the finger print to you.

While I can appreciate that aspect of my topic, I assure you that my ownership is not in question. Another reason for posting this is that I've seen similar topics where assistance was provided. If perhaps it is undesirable to post tips/suggestions here in a public manner, I'd welcome any responses via PM as well.

On a side note, the person I got the laptop from no longer lives in this country and was looking to discard a fair amount of their belongings prior to moving. The laptop itself is quite old so it may not even be worth the trouble. I was just curious if it could be done. Thanks again.

well if it was me i would of wiped the hard drive and install a fresh windows. as you do not know what was on the drive. could have bad things on it. so my advice is to re install windows.

Understood. Though I'm only looking to do that as a secondary option at this point. Primary is to try and bypass.

You've done everything we could possibly help you with as far as resetting passwords.

Reinstalling or what ever bypass method you can find elsewhere are your only options.

Let me narrow my question a bit further. From the Windows 7 Repair Console, I tried using CMD prompt to enable the default Administrator account. Yet when I return to the Windows logon screen, it doesn't appear there. Is there a different way to activate the admin account so as to gain access that way?
