Windows 7: How can I disable "autostart" from ALL external devices?

03 Sep 2015   #11

W7 Pro 64 and 32 bit, 2 laptops

the external HDD, ALL except Linux-only drive has been formatted to NTFS. Linux-only drive is ext4, this MAKES SURE that windows does not recognize it(this is preferred for me).

thank you,
but this is strictly for Linux, I'm happy how my linux OS behaviours because I personally customized everything without breaking my system.

I'm unhappy however with Windows7 not being too transparent.

The "Big Name" Linux Distros (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc.) normally have no issues with NTFS.
The NTFS performance in Linux Distros is often slower than on Windows.

Linux will apparently run on many different types of file systems.
Ubuntu and LM normally use EXT (my friend has experimented with other file systems, like BTRFS).

If a Linux Distro doesn't support NTFS, you can download some software to "embed" it.

Hiding unused "removable storage" devices from "Computer" folder
Not a major issue, of course, purely cosmetic, but still a minor annoyance none-the-less: I have a number of card reader drives that I never use (haven't even removed that plastic cover tape from them to help keep the dust out) that show when viewing the "Computer" window that displays drives. ...
