Help with Canon MX870 printer problem

Have had this printer for a couple of years, have it set up to use wirelessly. Suddenly when I go to print, I get " printer not responding". I have checked and re- checked the LAN wireless settings directly on the printer and nothing has changed, all settings are the same as they have always been. I have tried removing and then adding the printer, but it still does not work.
I have now purchased a USB cable, and if worse comes to worse, I may need to TRY to set it up to use USB port instead of wireless. Not sure how to do this though
I do have the CD from Canon. If I used it, would it automatically install, and install the latest drivers? I saw on the Canon site that there is a new driver released in Juky 2015 too.

Where to begin? Need some detailed step by step help to troubleshoot and directions on how to set up if necessary, using the USB port on my PC.

I would so appreciate any help! Thank you

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Just turning off the wifi and connecting the cable to the machine will install the driver for the printer.

Any specific type of printing you're attempting = from a browser or another program ?

Not sure what you mean by "turn off thevwifi"? Would Indo that on the printer itself, in the Settings?

I need to print saved documents in Word and also make a copy of a printed document that I have to give to someone...so need to print AND copy.

    Thank you again!

    Hi,
Well the easiest way is to uninstall then reinstall the printer this time when you install just do it with the usb cable connected.
You probably won't need to the disk like I said prior just connecting the device will install a driver for the printer.

Wifi options would be in the printers settings and initial install from the disk along with all the other features that the printer is capably,
Personally most of these features after a while just go kaput and cause problems similar to what you see now.
