    Devices and Printers not loading.

I joined this site because the thread on this does not fix my problem.

I installed Win7 Professional and the devices and printers windows was loading just fine. Then I noticed that it wouldn't load at all, and just get the green status bar thing across the top of the screen. Here is what I have tried:

    1. Restarted the Bluetooth support service which is the preferred fix, and that didn't work.
    2. Created new profile, and the windows appeared. However, as soon as I added a network printer, though the printer works and I got no errors installing, the Devices and Printers window is back to the not loading situation.
    3. I have downloaded Win7 specific drivers for the printer and still the problem occurs only when I add a network printer.

Edit: I did want to add this was an upgrade from Vista Business that I performed. I have not, and am trying to avoid, reinstalling the entire OS from an image on the server. I did use CC Cleaner when in Vista, but I wouldn't think that was the issue carried over to 7 when the devices and printers screen works until you add a network printer. Just adding more info and glad to be here!

I am on a domain, though I don't think that is the issue. My partner has the exact same rig I do and is connected to the same printers and he doesn't have this problem.

    HELP!

    Updated information:

I completed wiped my machine and reimaged it with an image made from a clean install of Windows 7. As expected the Devices and Printers screen showed up without issue. I even added a network printer and things are fine, even after a reboot.

Now, awhile after the reboot, it's back to the same old thing again. Everything from the other articles are set right, but this is still a problem. I am installing EndPoint Encryption for the HD so that could be an issue. If anyone knows, please give me a shout.

    Ok found the solution

Click Start button, type "services" into the search program and files box. This brings up a list in the menu, select Services. This should open a list of local services on your system.., Find 'Bluetooth Service" and make sure it has started, right click and set to 'automatic' (mine was already set), Select "Bluetooth Support Service" and start, set to automatic (mine was set on manual) --

It worked for me . Very happy.

Have you checked your drivers? You should check with the manufacturer or the windows compatibility center to make sure all your drivers are up-to-date: Windows 7 Compatibility Center home.

this is what I mentioned in my first posting that I tried and that did not resolve.

This is an outstanding issue for me. All my drivers are up to date and this is still an issue for me.

The bluetooth solution is all over the internet but it doesn't fix mine either. I've tried the re-register ie8 files solution too and that doesn't work. I've also tried to delete all printer mounts from the registry. I've noticed that if you let it search too long it won't let you close the window without ending task on it. If you stop early it closes fine. Nothing I do will let me see that window. I have RC1.

Please post if you solve this. I also would prefer not to reinstall.

Found a different fix for empty Devices and Printers!

Hi, rrrryan. I've been looking all over the net for the fix to this problem myself. I found it while looking for a (I thought) completely unrelated problem-every new folder I opened would open in a new window, regardless of the setting under "Folder and Search Options"
    I found the fix here:
Solution: Explorer open each folder in same window error and SQL Management Studio, IE and Team Explorer errors | David's Blog

It has a cmd file that you can download and run (as admin!) that corrected my folders issue. On a hunch, I opened "Devices and Printers", and Lo and Behold, everything is fixed there as well. It is supposed to work on both flavors (x86, x64) of 7. I'm on x64 myself.
I hope this might help you avoid a reinstall.
    Thanks,

    Alan
