System hangs for a few minutes with HDD light constantly on

    Hi,

System hangs and stays unresponsive for a few minutes, randomly, and when this happens HDD light is constantly on, it seems something is stuck. I have to patiently wait until it responds. I think only svchost.exe has any activity (as stated by resource monitor).
I would like to fix this annoying problem, but I don't know how.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Can you see anything if you switch to Disk tab in Resource Monitor and sort by read/write also sort the Disk Activity (section right below) as well. Perhaps you can catch the exact file and which svchost.exe (make note of PID).

You can try a clean startup in the meanwhile - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

Hi GokAy, thanks for your reply.
I can't interact with the computer while it's stuck.
After that I go to resource monitor / disk tab and see that no other process besides svchost.exe was active.

Svchost.exe by itself is not helpful as there are many svchost processes (running different groups of services).
    - What PID (Process ID) does it have?
    - Also, the section below Processes in Disk tab will show files, sort them too.

This happens at different time intervals. Hardware suspect.

    svchost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation)
    svchost.exe (LocalServicePeerNet)
    svchost.exe (NetworkService)
    svchost.exe (LocalServiceNetworkRestricted)

as long as Windows (svchost.exe) and other native windows technologies uses java with networking and no GUI's it will suck forever, sometimes which means things must be connected everytimes (with the world) and we must have to have a lot of patience, and things grow and get slow... and must be recycled I bet :),
but... what the heck... I think that my problem is not THAT! [I think that my problem is physical related].

    I saw some daemonu.exe too.
    And some NvTmru.exe too.
    And some HD-Agent.exe too.
    And some mDNSResponder.exe too.

    That's my 10 cents.

    Thanks.
    Cheers from Portugal,
