Windows 7: External drives don't show up

External drives don't show up

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64. I have two external drives, a WD Elements connected via USB 3.0 and a Rosewill dock (USB 2.0) with another drive mounted in it. Both drives formerly worked fine, but now the computer can't see even one of them.

My USB 3.0 ports are on an add-in card; I know that works because other devices plugged in there work fine. I have replaced the WD's USB 3.0 cable with a new one. I have also tried plugging it into a USB 2.0 port. Nothing works.

But it may be something systemic, since neither drive can be seen.

Hello mate now is there anything listed in the BIOS or DISKPART > list disk??

Another try might be to have a go with this as I have "found" drives using it Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free

Windows 7 Home Premium x64

Hello Newmaven!

When was the last time you had these drives successfully connected and was it again to this system? Have you done any modifications to it since (updating, OS change etc.)? Please, try on another system, as well. What kind of other devices have you had connected and was it in the same ports? Are you connecting the Elements and the docking station all at the same time? Try one by one. Do you hear them spinning? Please post a screenshot from Disk Management while having each drive connected separately and then both together. Both of the external devices are using USB cables separately so try and change them. Also, check in Device Manager if you need any USB drivers updating.

Post back! :)

Do you hear them spinning?
Very valid point didn't think of that and I still would like to know what is showing in diskpart or the BIOS, and even the PW method.

If you still cannot find the drives I think it might be worth trying a Ubuntu boot and see what is laited int hat format.

If you want to try that let me know I will send info.
