    0x00000057 - printer problem!

    Hi Guys
your help would be appreciated. I have three computers (2 wired + 1 on wireless) After years of painless operation I find 1 of the wired pc's no longer communicates with the networked printer

The PC to which the printer is directly wired gives no problem (the printer is of course ticked as a shared item)
The wireless laptop also performs with no problem.

The remaining wired PC does not show the printer in the devices / printers and fax folder.
I click on add printer - then click on add network, wireless or bluetooth printer and the printer appears on a selection list. Immediately an error 0x00000057 is shown cannot connect to printer.

What is the correct approach to this problem for a simpleton like me?
    Thanks in advance

Hello mate now forgive my ignorance but just what is meant by two "wired" computers to a printer as I have necver seen a printer with two connection sockets - if that is what you have.

    Hi ICIT2LOL

Many thanks for coming back to me on this one.
Sorry if the original post was a little unclear - let me try again.

I should have said that 2 PC's are wired to my router/modem - the 3rd (laptop) is wireless. The printer is connected to one PC via a USB connection in the conventional way. All three are networked on a home group.

Full printing capabilities are available to the laptop, and also to the PC to which the printer is directly connected.

The remaining PC does not show the printer in the devices / printers and fax folder, so I click on add printer - then click on add network, wireless or bluetooth printer and the printer appears on a selection list.

Then when I select the required printer and try to confirm - Immediately an error 0x00000057 is shown with the message 'cannot connect to printer.'

Hope this clarifies the matter, and sorry if the original post was vague or misleading
    Cheers

Ok mate now have a look at this as I am not really sure of stuff when to comes to networking. BEST FIX: Steps to Fix Error 0x00000057 it is amongst a plethora of Google hits thoung plus don't take any notice of the huge number of ads - annoying but the main article may contain some help.

Myself if I have more than one machine and one printer I use wifi for both machines. A case in point is recently my partner and I updated to a new printer and did just that - it works fine.

I have to be honest and say I have never hooked up a printer to a modem - always to the machines by a dedicated cable or wifi.

This seems to be the common factor in all the posts on this problem:
Is this folder present on the PC with the problem: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository
If it is , is the folder empty?

    Hi ICIT2LOL

sorry mate - you are misreading my post! Printer has no connection to the modem.

I said "The printer is connected to one PC via a USB connection in the conventional way."

Thanks for the link - I will take a proper look at this later
    Many thanks again
