    External Harddrive Unknown Not Initialized

    Hey guys,

I have this new Western Digital My Book that I got about 6 months ago and it suddenly will not show up when I plug it in. I tried looking for solutions on what's happening but I can't get past the first few steps, until I found one where it says that the drive is probably toasted! Anyway, I'm still not giving up hope. I tried it on two computers, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but it's still the same. I tried initializing it and it's giving me "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error". I would like to chkdsk it but I forgot what the drive letter of the hard drive, so I can't really search it.

    Here're some screenshots.

    Hi gwulfwud,

    Welcome to Seven Forums.

It looks like that your WD MyBook is a goner.

The DLGDIAG test results is irrelevant since it hadn't run on the full capacity of the drive. It only read 0.00GB and gave you a PASS.:)

Don't break your head trying this or that. Please contact WD Tech Support if they could help. Based on the DLGDIAG Test results they may ask you to RMA it if they have no other solution to resolve the issue.

( On your WD My Book no DIY data recovery is possible since the drive is hardware encrypted. Only WD Data recovery partners have the decrypt key and can do that. )
