dead ends on cloning hd with lost partition
I don’t know what all to say here for needed info on this. It has been a while since I initially had this problem. This fairly new WD 1TB hd gave very little notice before going bad. As I remember it got to where it wouldn’t boot W7. I was able to copy over my documents etc, then it has just sat. I have been trying to find a way to clone the hd to another so I can get this pc running again. I keep getting hangups with every tool I’ve tried. I am suspicious that most of my OS, programs and data are still there it has just lost whatever is necessary for it to be readable. Working with it recently had it end up going RAW, so acronis will not read it to clone. The latest with acronis is a message that the sector size is different from the destination hd. I changed that in the new hd and it still gives me that error. I’ll bet even getting past that acronis will then say it has no data as it seems to have no partition info any more. I’m pretty sure it used to be ntfs. As I remember this hd just has one partition and may have had a boot sector partition, but I can’t remember for sure.
I’ve tried other tools and with partition guru it gave me this message: “Search partition completed. But there (is) no partitions found. Please change some options and try again.” I just ran it with the defaults and whole disk checked. Are there some other options can I do to try and find the partition or is there a way to add new partition info without having to reformat the hd and lose all of the data? I believe I can get this to clone or copy somehow I just have to have it be readable. I’d really like to clone this all instead of going through a new install and other stuff, but I just don’t think I am wanting to pay for recovery. In that case I’ll just forget it. Thanks for any help.
