dead ends on cloning hd with lost partition

I don’t know what all to say here for needed info on this. It has been a while since I initially had this problem. This fairly new WD 1TB hd gave very little notice before going bad. As I remember it got to where it wouldn’t boot W7. I was able to copy over my documents etc, then it has just sat. I have been trying to find a way to clone the hd to another so I can get this pc running again. I keep getting hangups with every tool I’ve tried. I am suspicious that most of my OS, programs and data are still there it has just lost whatever is necessary for it to be readable. Working with it recently had it end up going RAW, so acronis will not read it to clone. The latest with acronis is a message that the sector size is different from the destination hd. I changed that in the new hd and it still gives me that error. I’ll bet even getting past that acronis will then say it has no data as it seems to have no partition info any more. I’m pretty sure it used to be ntfs. As I remember this hd just has one partition and may have had a boot sector partition, but I can’t remember for sure.

I’ve tried other tools and with partition guru it gave me this message: “Search partition completed. But there (is) no partitions found. Please change some options and try again.” I just ran it with the defaults and whole disk checked. Are there some other options can I do to try and find the partition or is there a way to add new partition info without having to reformat the hd and lose all of the data? I believe I can get this to clone or copy somehow I just have to have it be readable. I’d really like to clone this all instead of going through a new install and other stuff, but I just don’t think I am wanting to pay for recovery. In that case I’ll just forget it. Thanks for any help.

No System specs. I am assuming it is a custom-built desktop running Windows 7.. Right? 64bit? 32bit?

"it wouldn’t boot W7. I was able to copy over my documents etc," - then how did you do that?

"Working with it recently had it end up going RAW," - again how did you determine it had become RAW?

"I changed that in the new hd and it still gives me that error" - New HD???? Which new HD? Where did you put it? And how did you change the sector size? From what to what? How is this relevant to the WD 1TB system disk in your PC? Please elaborate.

"I’ve tried other tools and with partition guru it gave me this message" - Again a confusing statement. If your system was not booting, how did you try Partition Guru? What other tools did you try and how?

I am still trying to tie the loose ends in trying to understand the current state of your drive and your problem. Without answers to the above queries there can be no further progress.

Do you have another working desktop to which you can plug in this WD 1TB drive as a secondary drive?

If not, create a bootable Partition Wizard pen drive with Rufus, boot your PC with it and post a full screenshot of the first screen showing your drive. Of course you have to take a clear camera shot.

Download Partition Wizard Bootable CD Free Edition from Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online

Note: If your system had 64bit Windows download the 64bit version . If your system had 32bit Windows download the 32bit version

    Download Rufus from here https://rufus.akeo.ie/

I had emailed to delete this post shortly after putting it up as I ultimately found that over the time this all went on I had confused HD’s, so there was not the problem I thought. The 1TB I was wanting to clone from that died is actually not this pc’s birth HD. When I got my memory all going I found that original birth HD and although it had also started to go bad I was now able to clone it all to the newest HD. I have a new topic I just put up about a problem with doing an upgrade install to tune this up.

As far as this situation it is a desktop, W7 64 bit.

I accessed the HD with a different pc and usb adapter and it would read well enough to get my documents, etc. off of it as I knew it may die completely any minute and then I retired it temporarily.

In disk management it showed as RAW.

I bought a new HD of course since I was attempting to clone like I was asking about here. Of course like I said I was confused about which HD was which but I thought I had put that new HD in the pc previously, so for this discussion the answer would be “I installed it in the desktop case”. I right clicked on the disk in disk management and did the sector size changing in the format. I believe I set it to 4096 in the settings which was what one of the cloning programs said the source disk was. All I know there is I would still get the error so apparently that didn’t work. The cloning programs told me it couldn’t clone to different sector size HD. Like I said acronis also gave me a message that it couldn’t clone to a HD with different sector size.

I had put a SSD in this pc with a temp W7 in it so it would operate for these operations. I forget the others clone tools I tried, I think one was easeus. Like I say no need now, but I could look at all of the icons on my desktop if I needed to!

    Thanks for the response.
