    Is there any hope ????

bought a 4gb HDD months ago. Finally got around to plugging it in. Disaster.

It is split into 2 drives 1x2gb 1x1.6 gb

    1. The 2TB partition initialized fine.
    2. The 1.6Tb unallocated space is faded out. Cannot touch it.

The simple solution is send it back. Ebay order istoo old. No longer on my purchase history. Same goesfor Paypal.

Can we delete all somehow and come up with anew 4TB partition????

What software did you use to set the partitions? I have used Partition Magic pro in the past but I have found the built in version on windows 7 does just as well.

Firstly search disk Management & then click on create and format....
Make sure your disk is detected. Click on the each partition & right click & then click delete volume. If when you right click & no delete volume is highlighted, the disk is in use by something.

If in doubt or having issue's I tend to use diskpart vie CMD ran in admin mode. Here is a list & instructions on how to use it.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/...(v=ws.10).aspx

Make sure you select the right HDD first when you use it as you can wipe your active HDD & you won't know until your system freeze's & then everything is gone!

But, where did you purchase the drive from? Also the purchase will be in your paypal records, you just have to search a date range & look through. I think they only keep upto 60 days visible.

But first thing with hardware, test to make sure they work when you receive them if you purchased online using paypal from ebay if that is what you have used because your only protected for 30 or 45 days.

But, what people have been doing lately is selling High capacity HDDs that have gone faulty with bad sectors. So they've pushed the bad sectors to one side, reducing the actual space available but they still work but with a reduced size & many people don't test or use or even notice within the time frame to open tickets.

    Hope this helps!

When I took it out of the silver wrapper & plugged it in as usual it asked to be initialized > YES > then open up Disk Management & it is already set as TWO unallocated spaces instead of one big blob.

Most likely reason is that you are using MBR partitioning format and you need to use GPT in order to use the whole 4TB as a single large partition. MBR has a max of size of 2TB per partition.

In order to use a GPT drive, your motherboard must support UEFI.

To me it sounds like you initialized the Disk as MBR.
It needs to be GPT for 1 large partition.
You can try to Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk with MiniTool Partition Wizard free.

I prefer to download from MajorGeeks rather than the download site MiniTool uses (CNET).
