Wireless/Wired Keyboard & Mouse does not work on login screen

    Wireless/Wired Keyboard & Mouse does not work on login screen


    This is a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64. I've run out of ideas. Here's a list of what I've done thus far,

    Keyboard/Mouse works flawlessly in UEFI BIOS but once I arrive at the password login screen it stops working

    1) New RAM
    2) New Mobo
    3) Replaced fresh batteries on my Logitech MK550 kb/mouse combo
    4) Checked BIOS settings for Legacy USB
    5) Updated BIOS
    6) Updated firmware on Samsung 850 EVO
    7) Tried every USB port (2.0 & 3.0, front and back)

    Here's the catch, once I unplug my WiFi receiver (ASUS USB-N53) keyboard/mouse works like normal, plug it back in, stops working at login screen.

    What exactly is going on?

    Hi 0pTicaL,

    I found a similar thread about this issue but it was kind of ancient but Layback Bear advised the user to shut down the Fast Boot/Quick Boot option in the BIOS, and what he meant was that the system would boot up too quickly and that the drivers for the mouse and keyboard wouldn't load fast enough.

    Basically I'm going out on a limb here so I'm not 100% sure it will work and oh yeah mouse and keyboard only need USB 2.0 ports.

    Hello, 0pTicaL!

    I had a similar issue with my computer. In two words, after installing VirtualBox with USB support, it replaced my motherboard USB Driver with it's own driver, which made all my USB ports non-working (both 2.0 and 3.0).

    By default, Windows 7 doesn't have USB 3.0 support and requires manufacturer driver in order to properly work. If your motherboard happen to have PS/2 port, you may try PS/2 keyboard and mouse to install manufacturer driver.

    It seems to be working so far. Lets hope it stays that way.

    *edit* Spoke too soon. The delay still occurs once I plug in my WiFi adapter. Unplug it and it works fine. Is there a way to delay the loading of the WiFi driver?

    I'm not sure if the USB receiver will work if I use a PS/2 to USB adapter.

    1. Windows 7 does not load usb 3.0 when installed.
    You must install them yourself.

    2. Their is no way one can move a mouse or type on a keyboard to even use the speed of usb 2.0 let alone the speed of usb 3.0. So in my opinion why waste a usb 3.0 port.

    3. I do not use any adapters to anything and that includes my mouse and keyboard. Once a adapter is use who know what will happen. For sure I don't because it will very from adapter to adapter.

    4. The bios thing I recommended about Fast Boot/Quick Boot is what solved my problem with my systems. I turned it off and used usb 2.0 for my mouse and keyboard and my problem was solved.

    I am and was assuming that the drivers were not getting installed completely on fast boot all the time. Sometimes things would work and sometimes not. I have no way or desire to prove it.

    1) I am using my MK550 on USB 2.0.

    2) No adapters were used

    3) Disabled Fast Boot in BIOS/UEFI, same issue

    Removed USB WiFi adapter and input device functionality returns to normal, but defeats the purpose of using WiFi on USB.
