    What processor are you using?

Do you know for a fact that it supports hyper-threading? Most Intel CPUs do not.

If you are using a Intel Core 2 duo, it does not have hyper threading.

Many Intel Processors do have hyper threading, however.

Then you don't have hyper-threading and there is nothing to turn off. Some later Intel processors from the Sandy Bridge and newer generations do have hyper-threading, but it does not apply to you.
