Left Click on Mouse Not Working Correctly

I believe my problems after I installed Lubuntu and Windows 7 in a dual boot. After a few weeks, I decided to remove Lubuntu, and keep Windows 7.

I noticed that my left button takes a few clicks to register. I reinstalled the drivers, but it persists. Sometimes, it works well, you won't know there is a problem, other times, it's frustrating. I don't want to reinstall Windows 7. Would it be possible to fix this issue without reinstalling Windows 7?

I also did a little Googling before I posted, I didn't find anything that helped me.

For reference I'm running Windows 7 64-Bit, and the mouse is fairly new, it's a Microsoft basic optical mouse.

First thing to try is a new mouse.

As a shot in the dark, try an sfc scan
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
