Windows cannot start this hardware device ..damaged registry entry...
Hello,
Maybe there is no connection but I recently had to remove and reinstall Norton Antivirus, part of it was corrupted.
Now when I boot the machine I am getting the warning sound related to "Windows Hardware Fail" or Device Failed to Connect." I get those 4 times at 30 sec intervals then they stop. Looking at Device Manager I see 4 yellow triangles with exclamation points in them, under Portable Devices. This is my memory card reader. In spite of this the reader works fine and I can read and write data to it as needed.
Clicking on one or all of them I get the message "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
So the question is should I remove all the offending drive's H:\ ...I:\...J:\....K:\ and reboot hoping 7 will find the reader? Or run System File Checker?
In all fairness I don't normally boot the machine with the sound on, I only turn it on when I need it so this condition may have been there for a while, honestly I don't know.
Thanks to all in advance!
