My MOBO seems to be reading the wrong CPU temperature (sensor issues)

Hi, all.

Before I start, my CPU is an A8-5600K and the mobo is FM2A75M-DGS. What I think is happening is the mobo is reading the CPU socket temp where it should be reading the core and/or package temp.

So, a while ago I was having some CPU overheating issues so bought a new cooler and all is well now. Tonight I decided to play around with my fan control and used my mobo utility program.

Here's my issue. In this pic you can see a comparison between the utility and HWiNFO64. My mobo is going by the green ~25C temperature, but there's also the temp marked in red, which is the same one I get in Speccy and my Afterburner overlay when playing games.

I started adjusting this a couple of days ago when I set up my fan control in BIOS and then noticed that the CPU fan never got louder, not even while playing a game and the overlay was showing temps at around ~68C which is way over my set 45 one after which the fan should kick it up a notch or two. I then switched it back to full power and the temp readings normalized.

So, going back to today, I decided to do the same thing in the utility program and find it hard to believe that my CPU temp is 25C with room temperature of around 22 and a bunch of programs open. Not to mention my case which is terrible airflow-wise. The temp also didn't change at all in a period of about 5 minutes, when normally CPU temps keep changing, even if just a little.

Basically, I'm just looking for confirmation that the bios/mobo readings are wrong and I should run my fan at full speed instead of trusting my mobo to properly control it.

I ordered a new case that comes with a fan controller for the case fans and I guess I should use that one instead of plugging them into the mobo as well, right?

I also wanted to ask if there's any fix to an issue like this? Anything I could do, any settings to change in the BIOS or is it just a faulty mobo/sensors and I will never get any automatic fan control out of it?

Not overclocking and not running Cool and Quiet. I'm unsure about the BIOS temp. I can check that later, not home right now. But if I remember correctly, it was giving me lower temps than all the other programs. I also have been using HWMonitor as well (lol I downloaded a bunch) and it reads the same as HWiNFO and Speccy. CPU cooler is an Arctic Cooling 13co and the paste is also by the same company.

About the voltage... This past summer I finally narrowed down my random restarts to CPU overheating. After googling and talking to a friend, we found many posts online about this line of CPUs running hot in general. And, among other other things, one of the solutions we found was simply underclocking and lowering the CPU voltage a bit. So we did, but not by much. From 3.6 ghz to 3.5 and the voltage by 0.1V (from 1.4 to 1.3). I have pics on my phone and just checked. It worked and the temps went down. Not by a lot, but enough to be in the normal range.

When I got my new cooler a couple of weeks ago, I reset the settings in BIOS to defaults since the new cooler was now able to cool the CPU properly at the default settings. I don't really know much about voltages, but it's 100% the default setting.

So basically, I've been fighting these overheating issues from the start and I don't seem to be the only one. My new case is on its way with some case fans so I'm hoping that'll help.

Updating this just in case someone else ends up dealing with the same thing.

My mobo is indeed misreading my cpu temps by around 20-25C. I got my new case today with four fans, set it all up, and the temps were better, but not that better. I had several tabs open in Chrome and probably a few things in the background and it was hovering around 48-53C (mobo was giving me 28 at the time). Which...isn't really ideal. Decided to take another look at my bios.

It turns out that I was wrong and I did indeed have Cool n' Quiet enabled. I decided to disable it and that was it: I'm running the same things now that I was then and my cpu is at 36-38C.

Basically, I can't trust my mobo to do any cpu temp regulation. When my cpu is at 50C, it thinks it's at 30 so naturally it doesn't do what it's supposed to. So all of those options need to be disabled/put on manual. I've been dealing with this for two years now and it ended up being so simple.
