    Scanner to Computer Communication

    Hello,
When I turn on my scanner (CanoScan 4400F) connected via usb cable, it shows in the device manager with a + (plus) sign, and right click on it, I get the notice that the device is working properly, also in Devices and Printers the scanner is there.
But when I open an image editor (Paint Shop Pro) and press the Acquire button I get a message that the program could to find the scanner, so in the program opened the window to select source and the scanner was there, again I selected it but could not scan. I used the original installation CD, reinstalled it, restarted and the trouble still there. I looked again in device manager and the scanner is there, in properties I get the message "This device is working properly." I even connected the cable to another usb port, no progress.
However, the "test scanner" remains Gray.
Added here 3 screenshots, if it helps.
Any idea to solve the problem ?
    Thanks
    Motim

Motemmate open Device Manager and see if there are any yellow triangles against the USB ports.
