Windows 7: Display Black

Display Black

I have an HP Touchsmart 310-1000z. Its an all in one. The PC boots and goes to login screen because I can faintly see it. If I use a flashlight shining on the screen, I can see it. I was thinking it was a back-light issue but not sure this PC has one. I do however know it has a small inverter board. I have searched high and low for the service manual with no luck. This stuff is new to me. I could use some help in troubleshooting this one.

EDIT: When I boot, I get the HP screen for a split second and then it goes black.

If you can see the screen by shining a flashlight on it, there is a backlight, and it is not lit up. Something in the machine is turning it off just after boot.

This is probably not something that you can fix yourself. You would most likely be better off by having a qualified technician look at it.

Thanks for the response. I have found a way to determine if its the backlight or the inverter. Waiting on my stuff to make a tester. Should be here next week and I will fill you in after that.

Well sports fans, it was the inverter board. Actually did not cost much. May be a common problem for this PC. There are a lot of people out there that has had screen issues with this particular PC. But all is well in the land of Oz now. I found this video in case anyone is interested.
