Want new Hard drive to be "C" old one to be "D" (or whatever)

Hi All. Just replaced old hard drive in 2012 Gateway PC (Windows 7) with new drive (reinstalled Win7 OS from my Gateway recovery disk and all went fine). Plugged NEW drive into Sata0 port (where old drive was plugged) and with old drive disconnected it boots fine and is seen as "C" drive.

When I attach the old drive to Sata1 Port, the PC will boot but it shifts the NEW drive to "D" drive (though it is booting the NEW OS install).

I want the New drive to (always) be C and the old Drive to be "D" (or "E" or whatever). What am I missing? Why is the NEW install shifting to D when I attach the OLD drive?

Not wanting/trying to dual boot or anything, just want the old drive to show up as D or E, etc...

    Thanks!

Suggest you deactivate the old disk.
