    formatting a different partition


    Is there a way to do a NTFS format of a different partition while running in Win 7 or Win 10?

    As long as you are not trying to format the partition windows is installed on or has boot files on then you can do this from disk management.
    If you are trying to securely erase a partition then you can do this from a command prompt using the in built diskpart function.

    If you would like specific info please post a screenshot of your current disk management setup with info of what partition you would like to format

    Start>diskmgmt.msc>enter

    Used disk mgr to shrink partition from 700 GB. 2nd partition does not show in disk mgr. It should be > 250GB.

    found unallocated space in disk mgr and am formatting it now as NTFS with MiniTool Partition Wizard. Thank you for the help.

I left my computer on overnight, woke up. I couldn't find my D drive. I checking Disk management, the partition was formatted and only a new volume could be created out of the space that was once my media partition. How does this happen? Virus? Malfunctioning HDD? Thanks for all replies.
Formatting partition with win xp

Greetings, I'm using Win 7 as my primary system for some time and it turns out, that I don't need xp anymore. However when I try to format partition on which XP is installed I got "windows was unable to complete the format" message. Any hints how to do this would be appreciated.
