Yep well I have both the Sandy Brideg and the IVy as well as an old Intel Q9600 driven "tester" and to be honest they really are as good as I want a machine to be even though my two main laptops are Haswell driven.

If that Sandy is as good as I've heard in countless reports or even as good as my old i7 920 Bloomfield I have to say I concur 100%. Evidently they just don't make 'em like they used to. The old 920 I have still runs smoother than my Haswell 4770K. Perhaps it's just the old silicon lottery but I'm finding many of these newer chips leave alot to be desired.
Yep well it has taken everything I have thrown at it and the Ivy although with some hitches is good too. The old tester CPU is the one that amazes me - was given an old computer and this is what was installed Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9650 (12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) Specifications it really is an oldie but heck it is good even with DDR2 RAM.
Just as a by the by I did try to buy a spare but when confronted with a price that outstripped a Sandy Bridge i5 needless to say I had to pass it by.
lol No kiddin'. Amazing how Win 10 will just auto-uninstall CPU-Z or any other progie Microsoft wants removed or deems "dangerous". I wonder if Microsoft plans on buying Intel. lol
I used to have a 930 and it ran very hot. Then I got a 2600K - more powerful and a lot cooler. My most recent cpu is a 4770K - again more powerful and runs cooler.
Intel cpu's used to make big jumps in power with every new design. Recently the increases are not so great, but the chips seem to keep getting cooler. I use my pc's for 3D rendering ie 100% load for days, so temps are just as important as power to me.
I currently have 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen Intels, but my favorite workhorse is the 2600K @ 4.4GHz with a Dark Rock cooler - runs at 60C under load.
Many a true word spoken in jestI wonder if Microsoft plans on buying Intel.
Having said what I have I must admit the i7 5500U in this laptop is really outperforming the others.Intel cpu's used to make big jumps in power with every new design.
It is true that the old Bloomfield runs a little hot but all in all it's a good chip and does okay up and down. My Haswell 4770K runs hotter than the Bloomfield and I've often considered delidding it but I've never had it shut down on me from thermals yet and the wife has no need for an overclocked chip so it'll be pink army boots for her once she gets this Sabertooth in her possession. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5QLh33Vqq0
Of course I'll be taking back the x58 until I can figure out whether or not it will be worth it to get that x99 board. MS/Intel are really putting a shadow on this for me.

A couple of good videos Scanner and at the same time disturbing. Now I do not intend on buying any Skylake gear simply because the Sandy Ivy Haswell the last of that line in my current travel laptop - i7 5500U am not sure what it's architecture is - I have in my machines runs those machines to perform as well as I want them to and I really don't see what the clammer is for power reduction is all about - all I care about is that they operate reasonably fast and do not get too hot.
I also noticed in those videos that money was not an issue and I am quite amused at that rather no brain comment because everything they do (M$) is based on money making or are they proposing to be becoming a charitable association - something again rather farcical and I might add unethical and cynical.
The 7 OS is in my mind the simplest version of Windows I have ever used - have tried the farcical 8 and also 10 - a sort of mish mash of 8 and 7 and just do not like what they are or how they work. Intel now coming on board with their nonsense makes me think that people might even start going back to AMD CPU's and I am left wondering if one built a new machine with an AMD processor is that going to be blocked using 7 (or 8).
I am personally starting to get a handle on the Linux Mint OS - it is is every bit as fast as Windows even in my old five year old Toshiba and it comes bundled with Office software etc that equals anything that Microsoft has put out and it is all free although I do donate as I think is only right. When support for 7 does end then I am heading over to Linux because I just cannot stand this crap they are putting out and the immoral collusion of other certain companies that has sprung up between Microsoft and hardware manufacturers.
