Yes that will probably be the combination I will settle on. I haven't really seen much better in the Intel line with respect to both price and performance. The ASUS X99-E WS board certainly provides the options one would need for graphics rendering and a home server, in addition to servicing hardware without compromising the essentials. I find myself hot-swapping a good many drives on the family network here and could definitely use those extra sata ports. Plus I'm a big RAID fan so there is a good chance I'll be using them all. Right now the old ThermalTake Lvl 10 GT sits, an empty husk, in a box in the store room, waiting for a good MOBO and a worthy CPU. As it stands I have no PC I can call my own. Alas, the four year old is beginning to complain about being unable to access certain applications on her Win XP Home Media Edition. What's a fella to do?

I'm sure our crack Department Of Justice and the august Federal Trade Commission will fight to the death against that.

:) I'm sure they'll be happy to take their cut in the event that both parties decide that it is a good plan. After all, these "free" operating systems aren't going to generate much profit without the accompanying hardware.

Okay, this is an update. I bought the board.

I haven't decided on the chip yet but I bought the board. The i7 6850K seems the best choice and best bang for my buck considering the 40 lanes etc. I like my bandwidth and I like my options. Still, this is the most I've ever paid for a mobo and I'm still wondering if I will find a proper chip that fits my criteria for around what I paid for my motherboard. *tsk* *tsk* Greedy Intel

    Buy the ASUS X99-E WS/USB 3.1 - motherboard - SSI CEB at TigerDirect.ca

    Greedy Intel
Yes mate they are all greedy and make equioment in full knowledge that they can outdo the latest in a very short space of time. Your board is way out of my league I'm afraid so I am settling for an i7 6700K on an Asus H170 or Z170 I just want something real quick but not at an exorbitant price

Without question the 6700K is fast enough for 99% of desk top users. If my main interest was gaming I'd likely own one right now. From all I've read and learned about Skylake from my friends and fellow users this is the chip to own and use. I've heard, however, that it isn't so friendly with the ancient Windows 7 o/s which I've so grown to love and embrace. When it comes to support the X99 platform is the last to do so I believe. I barely tolerate Windows 8.1 and Win 10 (for me) is out of the question. Still trying to find that elusive 6850K for less than $800.00 Canadian. I doubt I'll get it for the same price as the mobo but it sure would be sweet if I could.

Hmm couldn't justify that sort of money for CPU especially when my old i5 3570K is pretty quick - my only reason for wanting the Skylake is my withdrawal symptom for a new build are pretty bad

x99 is good enough for me.

I've seen that price before (in U.S. $ of course) but I live an awful long ways north of the border and even then I'd have to smuggle it in order for it to be worth my trouble because of customs and duties. What it would cost me to get south of the border would be closer to the cost of a 6900 K in Canadian dollars. At that rate I'd be better off ordering from New Egg lol If you find a good deal in Canada let me know pronto. Thanks for looking.
