Audio cuts out temporarily when plugging in controller

So I've been plagued with audio and game controller issues for awhile now.

I think a reasonable symptom to work with is that when I plug my Dualshock 3 into my USB 2 port, my headset (which is also a USB 2 port) cuts out and then back in.

Sometimes if I run some kind of controller server, it will cause it to just cut out and in over and over again.

It cuts between my headset and my speakers (which are 3.5 mm)

    I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, fully updated.

There are usually several separate USB hubs on a motherboard. e.g. the front panel USB ports can be on one hub, the rear USB ports on another or more than one. Plugging in a second device (depending on the device) can cause a temporary glitch because of the power required by the device(s). Best option is to plug the devices into different USB hubs, as that usually solves the problem.
