Help with Samsung NVMe 950 pro.

Hey guys,

I'm at my wits end here and hopefully someone can help me out.

I recently bought a Dell xps 8900, a Samsung 950 pro and Able Conn PCIe 3.0x4 for M.2 to install in a PCIe slot on my tower.

For the past two weeks I've been trying to either a clean install of Windows 7 from a thumb drive and by cloning using Acronis and have failed many times over.

I keep getting error messages but the drive is showing up in the bios and in system management so I'l not sure what the deal is.

I called Samsung tech support and the said their migration soft ware won't work because the sad is not install in the M.2 slot on the board and thats why i used Acronis.

When the system reboots, a line of code comes down cash but before it reboots to my other drive a see a few lines that read "ERROR" but that's about all I can read.

Hopefully someone on here can shed some light on what I'm missing.

Well, the Ableconn M.2 adapters don't indicate support for Win7:

Windows 10/8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Linux series, Fedora, SUSE, Ubuntu, Red Hat native drivers support both PCIe-NVMe and PCIe-AHCI

Unless you can provide the actual content of the errors you're seeing it will be difficult if not impossible to help.

That isn't necessarily the end of things. It's just something you have to take into account. I'd suggest installing Win7 to a regular disk and seeing if the M.2 can function as a non-boot disk.

If that works, with more detail about what you're doing and the errors you're seeing when trying to install to it we may be able to help you get it working.

I will write down the errors next time.

It works as a non boot disk and it shows a healthy status in my drive management.

It's an Update to add native driver support in NVM Express in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 from Microsofts website.

Wonder if i need to install this to get it going?

I'm going to do some reading and more research before i do anything.

Sorry, link don't get added. and for some reason it's not letting me add it. But it's says it's a hot fix for problems with NVM in windows 7.

Going to read up on it and see where it leads me.

If the hotfix is the issue and you want to install fresh, you'll probably need to inject the hotfix into the install image with DISM. That's a subject unto itself though, and there's lots of tutorials to help with that.

so i tried another boot from usb drive tonight.

The scene went black and "loading windows files" window came up and then it goes to the blue windows screen.

and got the error message "IDS-DISK-NOT ENOUGH-LARGE"

Unfortunately, I can't find any information whatsoever about that exact error message. :/
