Thankyou very much for the replies guys.

I have been using the Western Digital Software. I will use this disk for unimportant data until it dies.

It passes all tests at the moment, shouldn't the current pending error have been moved to the reallocated sector count or event count?

No. My post #8 explained why.

Thanks again for the reply. I *think* I am slowly understanding all this. So there is an error reading?

So I bought a new WD external a few months ago.. and transferred all data to this new disk.

I have a Current Pending Sector 1 on it according to HD Tune and CrystalDiskInfo, yet Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics passes everything. So again, an error reading? Do this mean there is some dodgy/corrupt files on my hdd?

If the problems are physical, it could be the platter, the read head, motor, etc. Here is a diagram of all the parts.

Did you ever run diagnostics? Whether or not your files are lost depends upon the issue.
