I have a problem with a wireless keyboard and mouse

I have a HP Presario C700 laptop, OS Win 7 Home 32bit. I have been running a wireless Ihome full keyboard with side number pad and mouse for a little under a year. The wireless keyboard and mouse did worked fine. Then one day the wireless mouse stopped working. The wireless keyboard keep on working. I though the mouse died. So I was running an other wireless mouse (mouse only) and the laptop's built in keyboard until I got my next pay check.
Today I got a new (same model) wireless keyboard and mouse combo. This new keyboard and mouse are doing the same thing. The keyboard works but the mouse doesn't work. I unplugged the USB receiver and plugged the USB receiver into a dif laptop and both the keyboard and mouse work in the other laptop. Why is the wireless mouse that is pared up with the wireless keyboard not working in the Presario C700 laptop?
I need to fix this asap. There are certain prog's that won't run without the extended keyboard and number pad. How do I fix this? There must be a cliche somewere in the operating system.

There isn't any down little black arrows and yellow !'s. But under other devices there is 2 small ? question marks. What it means, I don't know. I have never seen a question mark pop up like that before.

Did you install new batteries ? Did you turn the mouse on, it has a switch on the bottom.

Yes to both. This keyboard and mouse is brand new out of the box and works just fine in the other laptop.

No drivers are installed, if those indeed are the items in your snips.

PLug them back into the other PC where they work, open those same 2 dialog boxes, what do THEY say under Device Status ?

Here are the pictures from the HP Presario CQ56 device manager. There is no "other unknown devices" listed in the CQ56's device manager. By the way I picked up the CQ56 laptop cheap, for a song and a dance. It has a problem with the dc power jack were the ac power pack plugs in. Battery is good. I just have to put tape on the plug to hold the plug in the right spot to make contact. I am going to have to do a bit of jarry rigging until I can order a new power jack on Ebay from my Aug SSDI check.

    Thats your baby.
Download the drivers to your desktop (extract as its a zip file).
    Drivers ? Synaptics
Then open device manger update driver >> let me choose >> point to driver in extracted folder.

Open up the same windows you did in message #3 where it said "No Drivers are Installed for this Device". Click on the tab "Driver". You will then see a button "Update Drivers". Click that and it will download the driver for you. Let us know if it works.
