Choice of WD WD1001FALS 1TB hard drive for system backups.
Hello the Forum, having been negligent in making periodic backups, and reading about SSD total failures, am contemplating what method to use. I am seeing a number of WD model WD1001FALS available on ebay at an affordable price ~$40. These are 1TB sata2 hdd Caviar Black model. Currently, I am running two 480GB corsairs SSD (running great). The 1TB will be sufficient. Being retired and of limited budget, I figure to buy one a month for about 4 months, then rotate hdd selection among the 4. Yes, these are used. but will receive very light use. they are the black model, and they do park the heads while not touching the disc surface.
This first one I will mount in the computer, but will get a front panel mobile mount.
Anyway, any known problems with these drives? A better budget minded choice?
Thanks. Stan.
