i am having similar issue as Jenny who started this thread except that it shows my memory as 0.0 mb
i tried mini tool recovery wizard but even that shows the drive as read only.
can you please help?

I dont yet have rights to start new thread it seems.
My issue is my hard disk wd element is not showing in my computer but it is shows in the devices connected. There is also an option to eject the disk. But i cannot access its content.

Yes right. Does it mean it won't work anymore?
It means that you have to designate a letter for that drive. Without a drive letter the system will not know which should your files be at.

2. What is the capacity of your WD elements drive?
3. How old is the drive?
4. Run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows. Download from here
Software and Firmware Downloads | WD Support ( Click on the + sign to expand and read the instructions carefully.
Do the Quick Test and Extended Test and post the results.
Note: Carefully note the time taken to complete the Quick Test and Extended Test, report and post the screenshots of the result... If both finish instantly that means the Diagnostic did not run.
If the drive is shown as healthy we shall proceed to rectify the fault.
In most cases the drive will turn into Read Only when the drive all of a sudden develops too many bad sectors.
Let us see what is in store.
Disk management shows that disk is unknown and not initialised.
Both the tests didnt happen. they finished quickly.
