Laptop Mouse Cursor Won't Move, MousePAD cursor does

1. Optical USB mouse won't move the cursor.
2. Mouse buttons function properly
3. Bought a new similar mouse, same problem, ruling out damaged mouse likelihood.

4. Have tried multiple USB slots. Have tried rebooting. Have tried uninstalling the driver and rebooting.
5. Saw somewhere to remove battery but I'm in a hotel and have no screwdriver to do so.

Really need to fix this as my shoulder is becoming inflamed reaching to the mousepad. Help?

Toshiba Satellite M50, Win7.

Have mercy, all. I know this isn't a mouse hardware issue...must be something solvable. Any help? :)
Gratefully,

Have a look in Device Manager, accessible via Control Panel & see if there are any yellow flash warnings showing for the mouse. Also check whether the mouse driver is showing as working properly.

Is there anything useful in this Toshiba website that might help you. It is an old one but it might have some suggestions.

No, but what an elegant solution to that guy's problem. He was trying to disable his touchpad. Best solution was to cover it with duct tape! :)

Well I just posted in the Toshiba forum. Worked like magic. No responses but my mouse started working! Damn that's a good forum. :)

Wow. Just discovered what it was. I'm in a hotel. The wood desk has a smooth glass top. The optical mouse couldn't register what it needed to register to move the cursor.

Laptop Touchpad Uses Same Speed Controls As Mouse For Cursor
A laptop touchpad and a mouse are two separate pieces of hardware, yet it appears that in Windows 7, the same speed controls that control one, control the other? I have read to solve this all you have to do is install the specific drivers for your touchpad. I did this and it still uses the same...

Mouse cursor won't move
In the past 3 days I've tried 3 different mouses on my computer, however none of them can seem to move my cursor. When I press left, right, and the stroller button, it sometimes works, so I know that the problem is not with my mouse. I've been navigating with my keyboard and my pen tablet, which...

Move cursor to check boxes using keyboard instead of mouse
Is there a way to move the focus to check boxes on websites and in programs without using the mouse? Let's say you're in the options menu of a program like Firefox or MS Office, and there are options with boxes you can check or uncheck. I want to be able to navigate to the boxes using the...

mouse cursor wants to move rightwards?
I seem to have a cursor problem that I just can't knock, my mouse movement just doesn't glide like it should. At first I thought I had dust under the laser light of my mouse that was causing the issue (cleaning it can help), but even still I notice a shocking difference in the way my cursor behaves...
