    CD/DVD drives vanish after updates

The other day my computer automatically downloaded and installed a couple of updates. Then I noticed my cd drives (I have two) are gone. Not in 'my computer' not in device manager (CD/DVD drive categories are not even shown), and not even in BIOS. Nowhere to be found. They were there and working properly before the update. I put in a disc and nothing happens. So I open system restore and go back to a date before these updates. That did not work, the cd dives are still missing. What happened and how can I fix it?

Hello js mate try reseating the cables to those drives and have you a spare you could try in the slot/s.

I would also try running these
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 > in safe mode if need be

If the drives aren't shown, even in BIOS the issue isn't on the windows installation.
Did you do a BIOS update?
If you aren't familiar with BIOS settings, take note of your BIOS settings. Unplug the power cord from your Power supply and then reset BIOS (take battery off for 2 minutes). Then put the battery back, start the computer, and check every BIOS settings. On the SATA configuration, see if the CD/DVDs SATA port are enable. Don't forget to set date and time.
