    Targus Wireless mouse playing up!

I have win 7 64 bit home premium. My Targus brand wireless mouse keeps freezing every now and then when Im watching YouTube. I get 3 or 4 ding dongs through the speakers then it freezes up. Ive got it working with a USB mouse at the moment,Ive checked device manager but didnt see any yellow exclamation marks? Ive installed new batterys and tried a different usb plughole.Ive updated the driver on the wireless one by plugging it in with the USB mouse but it made no difference? Any ideas how to get it going again?

Does the ding dongs through the speakers happens when you move the pointer or when you click?
Ding dongs normally means wrong click.

Or is the sound like when you plug or unplug a USB device?

You mentioned in your first post that it's works properly with a wired USB mouse & not with your Targus one. That would seem to indicate the Targus mouse may be faulty.

As oscer1 suggested, try the Targus on another computer & see if the problem follows the mouse.

The ding dongs are that windows sound when you unplug and plug in a USB device! They repeat 3 or for times in a row when I hit Esc and click on fullscreen. I havent got another computer, Ive given them all away because Im moving soon. The USB plugs are OK Ive cleaned the wireless transmitter with DeOxit and the mouse its self seems to be working OK? Aha! Ive just noticed the USB transmitter has corrosion going under the plastic cover? I live about 300m from the ocean,so thats more than likely the culprit. Can I buy another USB transmitter to replace this one if I cant fix it?

The fault is in the USB dongle! Where the USB plug connects to ground on the PCB board is cracked.Ive tried to solder it once with SMD solder paste but it didnt work? Ive had a look with a microscope and tested for grounds with a DMM.If I dont fix it next time I try Ill just buy another Dongle. Are all these dongles the same, can you mix and match them? I have no idea if they need to be Bluetooth,Wi Fi or whatever? Ive looked on the Targus.com website and entered the model number AMW50RUS but it isnt recognized for some reason probably because its about 5 or 6 years old?

I would rather just get another dongle to match this mouse because Ive had it for years, its just the right weight and feel.Does anyone know if I have to get just the right dongle or are they all the same frequencies etc,so I can just plug & play?
