Will my USB 3.0 card still work after reinstalling Windows?

    Hi,

I'm sorry for my ignorance on this.

Since I last restored my Dell XPS 7100 from its factory partition I have had a PCI card installed giving me some USB 3 sockets. Do I need to prepare anything for being able to continue using these after I reinstall from the factory partition?

From my limited knowledge I would presume I have to hunt down its driver and reinstall it at some stage, after the reinstall. Any advice would be treasured and gratefully received!

    Many thanks,

    Nev

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would imagine you'll need to install the driver yes
Windows will install a generic driver usually so it might work but not as designed possibly
No telling what the rated speed would be on a pci slot usb3 card would be or if it's rated "reality" faster than a regular usb2 would be :)

Open Device Manager to see if there is any alert of missing drivers.
If this USB 3 PCI card is an add on card, didn't it came with a driver disk?

    Hi,

That's a good idea, will look for it. The card was installed by my PC chap so I didn't see what was involved but that makes sense. As you can gather, my knowledge is rather patchy!
I take it Device Manger would advise me what make and model of USB card I have, if I knew exactly where to look?

Once you find the USB 3 device on Device Manager, right click - properties - Details tab you will find all information of the device.
