Yeah, carpets, laps, beds are all bad for notebooks. I think the word laptop should be banned. You need to get a breadboard, notebook cooling pad, lap table - or just better discipline.

True I agree, used to watch movies laying in bed......

Gotta a usb fan tray too, do you recommend connecting it or would block the fans, on the bottom?

Okay, but if you do use the tray again, then sure, I recommend using it. That's what its for, though just sitting the notebook on the hard flat cooling pad is probably good enough, having the fans spinning sure cannot hurt.

That said, I do typically recommend cooling pads that have their own power supply so the fans are not putting extra loads on the notebook's power and regulator circuits. The extra load from the cooling pad would add to the heat you are using the pad to get rid of.

I agree and had this in mind, since the tray would put extra load on the notebook. Would prefer to get a cooling pad with it's own power fans vs this usb one.

It should be noted the cooling the fans provide outweighs the extra heat the load of the fans create. So if your notebook needs the cooling, by all means use the fans. They definitely do more good than bad.

Also, you don't have to get a new pad. Just get a little, inexpensive USB wall adapter/charger for the pad. You might already have a couple laying around.

Well, not defeat but certainly counteract a portion of the effectiveness. The fans still provide more cooling than the heat they create. And for sure, if running on battery, they will help run down the charge too.

But still, if your notebook is prone to heat problems (as most are), and you don't have any wall outlets nearby, it would be better to use the cooling pad powered by the notebook than let your notebook overheat.

This wont fit, cause the usb of the tray would go in the wall plug, the usb cable is hardly 10"?
