Can I update to a 1.5 TB internal HDD on a 6 year old Dell xps9000

    I stand corrected on that. Thanks. Nevertheless, this was something you had to consciously do. The space was not already created by the drive maker, or the OS.

    Everything else is, sorry to say, TL;DR because I simply lost interest after responding to the comment the hard drive makers and Microsoft were probably using this space to steal customer's data. That's just feculent blather not worth me wasting more of my time on.
