DVD drive does not recognise install disks

I currently have a HP pavillion laptop, with a PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K17B ATA Device. Running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OS, and I only notice lately, though I believe it has been like this for awhile, it will not read any install disks. The disk management does not list my CD/DVD drive under storage, or at all, but in the device manager it says there is no problem.

It still plays music CDs, Movie DVDs, and the Windows 7 install disk, just no others. When I was using Vista it wouldnt recognize any, now it just wont recognize install disks.

Please help with this problem if you can, It is the only thing left to fix with this laptop, I have already fixed up everything else

    Hi.

Maybe a firmware update from the drive manufacturer will help.

Is that the same as updating the driver through device manager? Because there is no update according to windows and i have not managed to find drivers for download for this one either. Hp only has one download from its site for windows 7 x64 which is a wireless assistant

    No, it's not.

It's a special process to change the software that is housed on the drive itself. Only the manufacturer can provide an update for this. Usually found on their website for the model itself.

You could also try this page to see if it helps.
