USB device from vinly source not showing

I am trying to use a no longer used older computer to record vinyl records. I used to have some Steinberg software to do this (some time ago, probably using XP) but now just have the pre-amp that came with the software. Now, I get the old PC out, connect up and the pre-amp lights up. However, I cannot find any sign of the input device in the Windows system. I have tried Device Manager and Disk Management but cannot find any trace of my input.

I am using Audacity software but I do not think that the issue lies there as surely I should expect to find the device within Windows?

Any ideas....?

PS I apologise for not setting up the system specs but the W7 computer does not have any connectivity and I am hoping that the query is 'generic' and a common onw!

Hello Alan mate are we talking a vacuum tube pre amp here?? because you say it lights up and having made a few in the past I am interested in finding out how you are hooking up the pre amp to a USB port.

Now not knowing what you have got and I could be very wrong here but if the pre amp is vacuum tube driven I am guessing it may be an analogue signal and the computer maybe only capable of dealing with digital stuff - I stand to be corrected of course.

Why does device manager showing duplicates? Needless to say from the thread title, I only have one mouse and one keyboard plugged-in. Everything works correctly, but was just curious if there's any particular reason why this is happening.

Headset not showing up as playback device
I recently got a new laptop and my headset doesn't seem to work on it. I've identified that the laptop is recognising it, but it doesn't appear as a playback device and so I can't set it as the default one. There's definitely not a problem with the headset as it works fine on my computer, just not...
