    Formatting old boot drive C

I have a old SSD drive that was out of a old computer. I would like to format the drive to use it as a portable drive. How do I format without it trying to boot up my current computer? I have purchased a case for the drive?
    Thanks in advance.

By case I assume you mean a USB enclosure in which case you can attach it after windows loads and then delete all partitions then create new one and format

As long as your current drive is listed 1st in the boot order the ssd will not boot.

Then you can use Partition Wizard to format it, windows may not let you if it`s marked Active.
