Setting Language options for 2 keyboards?

As I bought my laptop when I was living abroad, it has an American (I suppose) style keyboard, where (for example) the number keys 1 to 5 in Caps are marked (and produce the symbols) ! @ # $ %. Given that the laptop sits on the desk mostly, I find it a lot easier when doing emails or whatever to use a USB keyboard on my lap, but this has a UK layout, where the same keys in Caps are marked ! " $ % ... but produce the same symbols as the first example (laptop's own keyboard).

I don't suppose there is any way to get Windows to recognise the two different keyboard layouts, so that the USB one produces the symbols depicted on the keys? Can I remap it without affecting the laptop one? Can't work out how, if so.

Thanks.

Open Control Panel - Region and Laguage
Format Tab - Set English UK
Location Tab - Set UK
Keyboards and Languages Tab - Change- General - Add - UK
Then move the UK keyboard up the list
On the task bar there will be a icon so you can change between keyboards (laptop or external)

Great! Thank you, that worked! I haven't edited that part of the Control Panel for ages - in fact the Location was still set to Greece, which I left in 2012!'

I had been trying to do this with the keyboard cpl rather than Region and Language... :-)

I get lost every time I have to "Upgrade" my OS.

Please mark this treat as solved
