    Boot from recovered SSD over USB


    Hello

    I recovered a SSD from a severly damaged laptop running Windows 7. I can mount it on another Windows 10 laptop and view files etc, but it won't boot. I get a BSOD (0x0000007B) and after that recovery repair is suggested but that gives the error: This version of system recovery is not compatible with the windows version you are restoring.

    I'm guessing just plugin it in and selecting the SSD over usb in the bios menu is too simple since it's a different laptop? Or should it work? Are their any other tools I can use?

    Hi

    The damage laptop SSD with Windows 7 cannot be transfer &or start from another computer Windows 10.

    But you can retrieve whatever data in the damage laptop SSD by using external USB connection.

    Each computer OS is unique and cannot be used on another computer, as referring to HDD &or SSD.

    Do understand all these points to take note.

    Two options:
    - Install the SSD into a USB case and then plug into any computer (as Eric mentioned).
    - Install the SSD into a desktop SATA port.

Per the topic here are the items. Note that I just added an ATI 5770 and crossfired it with my existing one. Not the same manufacturer but the same specs. Have ATI 10.12 drivers installed now. can go back to 10.10 if needed. Not sure that's the issue as I cant read the dmp info. Way above...
