    external drive writing issue

    Hi everyone,

I'm using win7 ultimate. It's a while that when i try to copy anything from my PC to any external drive it starts copying proccess and fixes at a point maybe for 1 or 1.5 min. and continues after it, or sometimes it takes long time showing "calculating..."

How can i fix this issue

    thanks in advance

What is your external drive? USB flash disk? Flash drives can be very slow (5Mb/s)
How big are the files you're copping to?

Have you already tried copying just one folder at a time?

Schedule a disk check: open cmd window and type chkdsk C: /f

Open cmd window and type sfc /scannow
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Should this happen again, do check if there are any program, process, etc; are running at the same time.
Hence, it may cause the copying to slow down a bit.

    But;
Also you are copying from SSD to HDD, this would happen as HDD cannot be cope with SSD in speed.
Also when copying from internal HDD &or SSD to any EXTERNAL HDD, there will be slow down even more.
This is due to the speed of External HDD thru USB.
And from Internal SSD /HDD to External USB HDD /SSD.
Copying between internal HDD &or SSD is much faster than going thru USB.

    Hi everyone,
My problem still persist, is there anyone to help me solve this problem.

Any time i copy anything from my internal HDD to any external drive the copying process stops for a while writing "Calculating..." and it remains at this situation for olmost one minute.

    thanks

That's normal. It is calculating if the files can be copied (size, fragmentation etc) and how long it will take related to how big the files are, how many files you're copying and how fast is the USB and drive.

Is it normal if it takes more than 90 sec to calculate for a 1mb or a 4Gb file.?
