seagate external hard disk 1tb keep flashing when downloading

    seagate external hard disk 1tb keep flashing when downloading


    from computer and the flash stays idle when not doing anything. Is it normal ?

    I have 2 external hard drives and they both flash when they are transferring files, when I plug them in they flash for ~30 seconds.

    Hello and welcome rasheed mate as far as I know that is perfectly normal as the OS drive in your computer will does that in any case.

    It would be a worry if it didn't flash if it were mine because it is just telling you that it is performing some sort of function for example reading or writing to the platters or some internal function by design.

    To check just watch the drive and transfer temporarily a document or a picture to the external and see what the light does it should just flicker for a couple of seconds then stop.

    thanks buddy for this info, i was worried as i had already hard disks twice earlier with seagate malfunctioning, this was the reason i was getting scared. but thanks a lot both of you .

    It can also be your antivirus. It scans your download files and also looks for and scan system files on all drives.

    I agree it can be a few "background" things going on like as what Megahertz has said and I did by the self checking stuff that they sometimes have
