I don't install any HP Software. Windows installed the driver and it works perfect.
Maybe the camera is working and is the HP software that isn't.
Download and install this camera software to test. Free Webcam Video Recorder

I would try it on another computer to verify it is faulty
Have you tried this before? Asking for my husband, he seems convinced that this idea would not most likely be the solution?

The standard method for fault finding in computing Hardware is "Test by substitution". It has a serious flaw of course for the regular private user - it is not likely that you will have a duplicate item available to test. Professionals will have access to suitable similar items for testing purposes. I do not carry a lot of spares but I could Lay my hands on 3 or 4 Webcams and by connecting one to a suspect system could eliminate a fault with the camera itself - if the Camera is faulty the only way to solve the issue is with a new replacement, as modern devices are basically disposable items

In you case we can have a few possible faults that could cause the issue you see, Use on another system ( more likely to be available for a private individual these days as many households will have access to more than one device), will indicate where the fault lies.

Once this test is complete moving the USB connection to another port is a good follow-up as it indicates the working status of the port currently in use. The Next would be a change of software , then complete removal and re-install of drivers

This method of diagnosis is far older than Computers and although it is old and can take a long time it is often the most effective method

    My sugestion:
-Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and uninstall all software related to the camera.
-Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items - Device Manager and uninstall the camera drivers.
    Reboot
It will find a camera without drivers and try to install them.

If it doesn't work, try this driver / software http://dlv.update.sony.net/US/pc/ARA...25713-0042.EXE

I had suggested that because it will help tell if it has something with computer or the camera. then he said he did not have another computer to test on. so gave link to a place that can test if camera is working said it passed. so you can read what was said next to try. could be a conflick with another program running in the background. we are just giving suggestions to try.

Do a quick search for YAWCAM it's an older cam app that I use for testing webcams, not many frills but does have a good built in cam detector that may help your problem

I fully understand your concerns, there have been some issues with criminals using vulnerabilities in the Java Code in the past. I personally am prepared to use Java as I have suitable Multi layer protections in place
