DVD drive not showing in Explorer since new drive/letters changed

I installed a new drive & after cloning & a few other changes incl drive letters I've now lost my DVD drive It's working fine and is recognised by other programs than Explorer but resolutely refuses to attach itself to any drive letter I now provide it.

I've tried various fixes found online from tampering with the Registry (no use as I don't seem to have upper or lower filters in mine) to disconnecting/reconnecting the drive (no change).

It shows up in Device Manager and has no obvious errors nor does it provide any error message on using etc - it's just invisible to Windows .

It's a new issue to me & I'm at a loss as to what else to do to push it to behave. I'm presuming the problem is a drive path/letter one but I've tried changing letters and while I did actually manage to get that to work once, the minute I actually put a CD in it suddenly lost the drive again - weird!! The drive was originally showing as T so I changed it back to D but hasn't made a difference.

Anything else I've missed or should try?
