EPSON LQ-310 Always Changes It's Paper Configuration

    Hi Everyone,
I have Epson LQ-310 printer which is connected to a PC 1. This printer is shared to network and the PC 2 is connected to this printer. The problem is, i find the current size of paper is always changes automatically. For example, i set this printer using user defined paper which has 8.5" x 5.5" size an named it "Half Letter". But in short time it changes to A4, letter, etc and it does randomly. It's also changes in random time (Tomorrow, 2 days later, etc.) so i should check it every morning just to make sure my settings doesn't changes.

For paper size settings, I already set it in PC 1's and also PC 2's printer server properties and set my user defined paper in printer preferences > advanced > paper size but things keep reverting back randomly. I did some changes in printer properties > Device setting but the result is always same.

Is there any way to make these changes permanently? And if there is no way, i would like to know another alternative ways like changing compatible driver or etc.

    Here's some information about PC's :

    PC 1 (Has printer connected)
    - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP 1
    - IntelCore I3-4130 @3.40 GHz
    - Lenovo 10132 series
    - 4.00 GB DDR 3 Memory

PC 2 (Use PC 1's printer)
    - Windows 7 Ultimate x86 SP 1
    - IntelPentium G620 @2.60 GHz
    - Generic Old PC
    - 2.00 GB DDR 3 RAM

    Any advice would be helpful!
    And thank you in advances!

    - Al

Hi pramardhika, welcome to the Forum.

Have you tried changing the paper size in the actual program you are using to create the printed item. For example if you are using Word have you set the paper size in Word for the item you are creating.

    Hello Ranger4,
    Thanks for replying.

In this case i am using Point of Sales program to print report document. The program has a report layout which has 8.5" x 5.5" continuous form so i guess the paper size of program is already right.

Have you tried contacting the Point of Sale software company to see if they can help you. Perhaps they can suggest some printer settings, as surely they must have had this problem from other users.

Yes, I did before and their suggestion was only changing the printer paper size settings and restarting both PC1 and PC2. It should be working out sometimes but the problem is still occurs. I wonder if there's another way to bypass this or something? I've already search another method in google to fix this but the paper size keep changing by itself

You also mentioned that the printer eventually uses the whole A4 sheet. Can you set the printer to print in US paper sizes. Half letter in US size is as you state 8.5" x 5.5". Whereas there is no half letter size that is the equivalent to the US one, that I can find.

You may have to change your Windows settings to US measurements to be able to set the right printed paper size.

Yes, I've already set the printer paper in US measurement with 8.5" x 5.5" and save it as "Half Letter", then set it as default paper size. Unfortunately, the problem is still occurs.

My recent method is create new printer paper size as many as I can. For example, I've already create "Half Letter" with 8.5" x 5.5" and set it as default. Then, I re-create it with different names like "Half Letter 2, 3, 4, etc" with the same size just in case if this printer paper size is starting to change randomly. If it makes a change, I hope the change is set to another "Half Letter" size that I created before.

I am not sure with this method but everything is worth a try so I need a couple days to see if this works.

    Hopefully your modifications will work.

The only other thing I can suggest is to see if you can reduce the top & bottom margins. I have found that often if these margins are excessive a single page print will run into the second page, even though it is blank.

    Hello Ranger4,
I guess the problem is solved now.
I did some changes by adding more paper size with different names(I mean, same paper size but with different paper profile name). Then, i select one of it as my default size. I also did some changes in printer's manual feed & tractor to be set as same as default paper size.

And another setting that may helpful, turn off the firewall because in this case printer is shared.

It's been a month and problem is not occurs anymore.

    Thanks for the help!
