Left mouse click brings up right-click context menu continually

I have had the exact same thing happen to me witha Logitech M-90 wired mouse. The continual "Popping up" of Right Click menus is an enormous inconvenience and time waste, especially due to my inability to input text while the menus are shown.


The "Sensitivity" to item or Menu proximity also seems to have been increased, and I am also having words and parapgraphs highlighted unintentionally.



Although I haven't yet solved this, I believe that it started after a recent CCCleaner File Clean and especially, due to a "Registry Clean", with a "Fix All Problems" action. I saved the changes, but haven't yet tried to reinstall the backup, or use "Windows Recovery". IMO, the "derangement" seems to be common to a Registry problem after multiple Registry Cleans. I will try the SFC/ Scannow solution. Thanks!

As a followup to my above message:


Because I did not have another mouse to experiment with; nor did I want to start dismantling and cleaning my optical mouse, as I would have in "The Old Days" with a ball or roller mouse, I took my air compressor and used a narrow nozzle to try and clean the possible accumulation of dirt, dust, and detritus [if any] under the "click pads" and scroll wheel.


I didn't have much hope, as I thought it was a Registry problem, but Voila! it has solved the aberrant behavior completely!


I hope this helps others with similar problems.

I also have the issue with one mouse, seems like a hardware issue, the left button's switch is scratchy (oxidized) and it causes double clicks and for some strange reason also causes right clicks. Double clicks and no clicks are an extremely common issue for that reason.

What I do is to change the microswitches, they are dirt cheap or you can salvage them from other mice, especially the right button ones and middle click ones because they had far less clicks during their lifetime.

Soldering is a pretty good skill to learn but if you don't want to solder new ones in place, you could also try to clean the contacts with some contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Just open the mouse and soak the switch a bit and click multiple times to clean the oxide layer but the ideal solution is to replace the switches of course.

You can also try to open the switch and clean the contacts with a very fine grit sandpaper but I can't recommend doing that.

When buying the microswitches you should check for their estimated lifespan, the higher the quality the more clicks they can make, for example a 3M switch is rated for 3 million clicks, should last you 2 or 3 years, a switch rated for 10 or 80 Million clicks should last you a longer time.
