DVD Drive

    hi guys,

    ive changed the IDE cable, the DVD drive is appearing in bios and windows now, but i cannot burn a cd now ?
    anyone have any ideas?

    You're having a hard time with this drive. I would try another drive if you can. Even an older drive should tell you if you have a defective one there.

    hey ive tried another dvd drive and that dont work ether :-S

    A number of burners require to be made the Master device on an 80 strand (Ultra DMA) E-IDE cable, and must be the sole device on that cable, otherwise they won't function as fully as intended.

    this dvd drive has always worked like this tho, ever since i upgraded to windows 7 its not worked properly, it wont even read disks now, it just locks up my pc

    The only other thing you can try is upgrade the drives firmware if there's an available flash update for it - otherwise mothball it til' W7 SP1 arrives, in the hope Microsoft may have been kind enough to fix the issue - should it be within their remit...

    When you say you can't burn a CD.....can you play a CD or do anything else, is it functional in any way?
