Front panel USB connections not working

Hello. I have a Corsair Carbide 200r case and the front USB3 jacks are not working. All of the connection wires connect to the same slot in my MB. The audio and mic jacks work and the USB has power (charges my cell phone) but it will not show any data or knowledge that I have plugged in my USB thumdrive or other USB devices.

In device manager, the USB controller area looks fine, but under "other devices" it shows an exclamation point over USB controller. "The drivers for this device are nit installed (code 28)"

I am not sure if the above is the issue, but it is the only thing in device manager with an error.

I have tried to uninstall it, but windows never resolves the issue.

I downloaded the USB drivers from gigabyte and installed them but that didn't work either.

    any thoughts?

your motherboard has two versions, with two different usb drivers

    GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 1.0) | Motherboard - GIGABYTE

    GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev. 4.0) | Motherboard - GIGABYTE

if neither of these fix the problem, try updating your chipset driver from gigabyte

if none of the above helps, post what's in the right hand pane of:
    start > run > msinfo32 > components > problem devices
