    CD and DVD don't play in CD/DVD drive.

    In my Acer Aspire 5738, any CD or DVD don't play in its drive. I hear a low volume rattling voice after inserting a Cd/DVD. In device manager under properties it says this device is working properly. Please help.

    What type of files are they ie mp4, avi etc and what are you using to play them. It can just be codecs missing for those files you could try FREE vlc it has lots of codecs and covers most types Download official VLC media player for Windows - VideoLAN

    Several years back, someone found a solution to that very problem, that is assuming that the drive itself is not broken, which is always a possibility. I've used this fix several times myself and I keep this script on my Utilities disk.

    The solution was a registry script, and here it is:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
    "LowerFilters"=-
    "UpperFilters"=-

    If you're familiar with editing the registry, you can go to the location shown above and if you find the LowerFilters and UpperFilters entries, delete them.

    I just looked, on my Windows 7 Ultimate PC and I didn't find either entry.

    Good Luck,
